Somalia, Somaliland sign 'talks' deal

PHOTO | AFP  By ABDULKADIR KHALIF    The Federal Government of Somalia and the self-declared Republic of Somaliland signed an accord, reports from Turkey have confirmed. The two sides were engaged in three-day talks moderated by the Turkish Foreign Ministry. Somaliland Foreign Minister Yonis indicated that the environment created between the two sides was conducive enough to encourage further talks. “We see no obstacles in the continuation of the negotiations between Somaliland and Somalia,” he said. The two sides agreed on the continuation of the talks facilitated by Turkey while scheduling the next meeting to take place in 90 days. The representatives crafted a roadmap to guide future dialogue, including the formation of an Ista

Was it the hidden standing policy of Siilanyo’s administration or just a slip of the tongue?

To: the President of Somaliland From: Somaliland Watch Group P/N: 0098/04 Date: January 19, 2014..... In 1960 Somaliland had won “the infamous nick name” Somali Qaldaan” which means the idiot Somalis who did wrong! A nickname well deserved after we delivered our Republic in a plate to Somalia with no conditions attached and sat back and started complaining thereafter!! Why that happened, bad leadership!? Somaliland voted a Referendum in 1961 whether to unify with Somalia or not. In that Referendum they voted NO union with Somalia by about 70%. That was not acted upon, why that happened, bad leadership! Somaliland was there in an illegitimate marriage with Somalia ever since! Again Somaliland voted for the withdrawal of the union from Somalia and the establishment of a sovereign Republic of Somaliland (a union which was not ratified and not signed by the President in 1960) In 2001 by 97% .Now Siilanyo government representative alluded that they are open to yet ano

IMAGINE: Somalia Under IGAD Trusteeship in 2016

By Mohamed Osman Omar Saturday, January 18, 2014 MOGADISHU – “Halane Camp: No Go Zone” Midnight, 16 Sept. 2016 – The story you read is partially fact and partially fiction about what would happen at the end of the tenure of the present Federal Administration and the term of office of the President of the Federal Republic of Somalia and if the promised election fails to take place in September 2016. One can say it is difficult to imagine that. But take one thing for granted. The covert plan by the African Union, supported by the United Nations and the International Community is ready for implementation. The signs are that the African Union, supported by the International Community will not remain idle and let Somalia fall in a vacuum in case the present Federal Government fails to organise free and fair elections in 2016: A perfect pretext to execute a well planned takeover. Back for four more years of “Transitional” government, will not happen  a

al-Ghazali

Abu Hamid al-Ghazali (1058-1111 A.D.) was not only one of the great Islamic philosophers, he is also considered to be, after the Prophet Muhammad, the foremost authority on Islamic theology and jurisprudence. What most people don’t know, however, is that al-Ghazali wrote extensively on the topic of happiness.  Indeed, his monumental Revival of the Religious Sciences , which runs over 6000 pages and 4 volumes, was reprised as a shorter text in Persian, labeled the Alchemy of Happiness .  In this we see some of his core ideas: that happiness consists in the transformation of the self, and that this transformation consists in the realization that one is primarily a spiritual being.  The ultimate ecstasy, al-Ghazali contends, is not found in any physical thing, but rather lies in discovering through personal experience one’s identity with the Ultimate Reality. One of al-Ghazali’s nicknames is “The Proof of Islam,” and he is called that not only because of the sagacity of his

Needed: Three Obama speeches for the people

Dear President Obama: All the daily decisions and crises you have to confront must not preclude occasional addresses to the country that rise to the level of statesmanship, transcending the hurly-burly of politics and executive branch administration. There are three areas where the people need the views and vision of their President. 1. A major address on the resources and preconditions necessary for the government to wage peace as a continual policy of statecraft and not just sporadic initiatives between waging war or engaging in other violent conflicts. Consider the enormous disparity of time, power and money allocated to preparing for or waging military assaults with what is devoted to prevention of conflict and other fundamentals of securing the conditions for peace. The tiny US budgets for nuclear, chemical and biological arms control with the Soviet Union and other nations over the years have certainly produced positive returns of incalcu

Washington’s great gamble in Somalia

US black ops in somalia Somalia has become a breeding ground for Washington’s black operations since 2001, with the African country suffering human losses due to US hegemonic policies.  Only recently, it has been revealed that the US secretly deployed two dozens of troops under the guise of military advisors. It is naïve to think that the US has no ulterior motives other than giving advisory clues to the military men in Somalia or protecting the security of the African people.  In 1993, the US embarked on a military expedition dubbed Operation Gothic Serpent in Somalia under the pretext of eliminating a Somali warlord, an operation which sadly caused massive human losses.  Quite naturally, the US swiftly exonerated itself and attributed it to a misstep.   According to Charles William Maynes, editor of Foreign Policy, CIA officials privately concede that the US military may have “killed from 7,000 to 10,000 Somalis during its engagement.
